I originally suggested that the film was timely, a form, however distorted, of black “power”, but she suggested, astutely, that the film could be anohter reason to demonize black women, with the same “kill the bitch” venom that marred the endings of both Misery and Fatal Attraction.

Yeah see, women want to be portrayed as powerful in movies, and they want to be seen to do bad things with that power — but they never want to face the repercussions of those actions. This is why movie female empowerment is a bogus agenda. If Annie Wilkes and Alex Forrest committed all the offenses shown in those films, why shouldn't their reward be death?
