Well the problem for me is that i tend to identify with the male characters and over time it begins to feel like the characters i want to follow are removed from the story by death, which death is usually attributable to a woman. It’s been a while so i can’t give many examples but i specifically remember that:
1 — Ruth Langmore killed her brothers;
2 — Darlene killed her husband;
3 — Wendy puts out a hit on Ruth’s father.
So i guess you could say i have a problem with what feels like a tendency to empower women through the killing of men. I wish i could just stay on the surface of the story and enjoy it like so many others, but these types of writing choices really get under my skin.
